What is Tapas?
Tapas are not a specific type of food as the word “tapa” means lid or cover. The term does not exclusively refer to Spanish food as there are a number of Moroccan bars and restaurants that serve such things as cous cous, kebabs and falafel and are mainly to be found in Southern Spain where tapas originated. As with many historical subjects there remains some debate as to why a tapa was placed on a small dish or wooden platter covering the top of your drink. Originally this would have been a small amount of ham or cheese. Maybe this was because any of the bar owners families would have produced their own jamones (hams) or quesos (cheeses) thereby reducing the cost of a free snack. As to the motivation of this covering of your drink there are 3 schools of thought:
1. To keep flies off your drink.
2. To hide the smell of bad wine.
3. To keep the wind from blowing your drink everywhere.
Here at La CC we believe it was to keep the flies off your drink as it is difficult to believe Spaniards would put up with sour wine and if it was the wind surely that would blow the tapas off as well. Another explanation is that a King issued a royal decree that alcohol should be taken with food a she himself had problems drinking on an empty stomach. Because tapas are thought to be very rustic in origin some also believe that taking a small amount of food with your wine or beer allowed you to return to work in better state than drinking on an empty stomach and also because those establishments that offered free “tapas” would be attract more custom. Throughout Spain the regional tapas reflect the best local produce and as a result can vary greatly. The Chefs at La CC take inspiration from these differences and regularly introduce new dishes via the Chefs Specials board which is an addition to the main menu. We hope you enjoy your dining experience at La CC.

"Once again our meal at La CC was great. This time I took my family as they had not been before and they also loved the place. Food was lovely as always and the relaxed atmosphere was great for us to have a laugh and chat all night."
"All four of us thought the food was excellent. Staff very helpful. This was our second visit and we will be back."
"Great atmosphere! Our group of 8 had a great time at La CC, with wonderful hosts and fabulous food and drink. With menu choices in abundance, we opted for the "we'll have two of those, and two of those, and a few of those please" approach, and none of us were disappointed. We stopped short of doing the salsa at the end of the evening, but needless to say that we would all go back... in a heartbeat."
"Lovely restaurant, went for romantic Friday night meal and was perfect - even rec'd a cocktail made to my exact spec following a long day at work :) Food was super fresh, plentiful and delicious - going again very soon!!"
"What a find!! You would not expect to find such a classy place in a suburb of Birmingham... The service was good and attentive and the wait for the food was just right to know it had been cooked fresh... We chose tapas and the variety was brilliant, the selection of Spanish meats mmmmmm! My friend chose to have the steak and that was tasty and cooked to perfection. I do not normally have desert but I went for the Citron la torte and that was perfect as was the Spanish ice cream. price excellent"
